[Mk2 NA] help needed for my wacky project

I've finally done it and gone and bought a supercharger, for what will probably be the most disasterous project yet.... (engine blowing up and car catching fire etc... ) But what the hell if it can be done i'll give it a go...

Thing is i'm now needing some help.... I could do with access to a basic workshop, possibly someone with welding skills and equipment. Or some contacts in manchester (i.e for engineering workshops). If anyone in manchester fancies lending me a hand with doing the work on my car at weekends / wednsdays / fridays there are some beers waiting, and I would really appreciate any help. [-o<

not yet... its a standard eaton m45 off a mini cooper..... its not arrived yet... but should hopefully be coming in the next week or 2

Yep, I figured that was the case. Hope you're going to keep us all posted with words and pics as you do it - you could be setting a trend here Certainly got me thinking, and I haven't even taken delivery of my first Mk2 yet ( tomorrow ) - I suspect it won't be long before I want more power, and we already have two Turbo cars ( Calibra and Astra ) but only one SC so an SC conversion would kind of equal the score if you see what I mean

The other ( mad ? ) idea I had was to bin the 3S-GE and drop a Vauxhall C20LET in ( same as in my Calibra ) - cheaper to get bits for than a 3S-GTE and can easily be modded to give 300+bhp. Added advantage is the matching F28 six speed gearbox

C20 LET is an alright engine. though its not as well designed as the 3SGTE I think.... My mate has a cav turbo, the engine is a bu88er to work on, and when you look at it it has some crazy bends on the intake / throttle body!!

Also leaks oil everywhere and is always running badly!

I'll keep everyone up 2 date with pictures etc... when I get things going

I'm hopefully getting some mounts and flanges fabricated this weekend so it should be fitted by then if not plumbed in (if all goes well)

Im a complete novice with mechanics so dont quote me, but someone on MR2OC bought a mini supercharger with the same idea but they said it was slightly too big to fit.

I love the idea.

The problem was that he was trying to fit it to the GE engine. The space is a lot tighter than in my engine bay. It can be done as a guy on here from holland carried one out a while back.

Anyway the supercharger has arrived today so we'll soon find out!!

Put the supercharger in the engine bay today to check sizes.... and it fits (just) as you can see in the photo.

making the brackets is looking like a pretty hard task as there isnt a lot to mount it off. Also where it fits just so happens to fit exactly over where my oil filter and dipstick are (which may be a problem)

Does anyone know if there a relocation kit avaliable for my car?

as you are in the manchester area i'd recommend JP Exhausts (jpexhausts.co.uk) based in Macclesfield for making up your hard pipes to intercooler/inlet etc.. Good prices and bespoke quality.

I didnt realise you had the FE thought they were quite uncommon except in usa. Still Ill be keeping an eye on the project. Good Luck.

Cheers lauren. is that for metalwork or silicon pipework? I've found someone who does mig and tig welding up north who's going to sort it out for a couple of beers. I'm going to need some silicon piping at some point tho....

you could use a chargecooler for the ST165 which is nice n small + you wouldn't need too much pipe work, in fact you could use any celica charge/intercooler but the 165 one is gonna leave you the most room in the bay.

Cheers i'll have a look into it. There isnt a lot of space left in my engine bay now. I'm not sure i'll need an intercooler / chargecooler at all yet as i'm only running low boost!

I'll have to see how it goes.
