A) at what point of tuning is an oil cooler needed.
B) what benefits does it have?

I personally think its not a point of tune and a state of modification,
but the usage of the car that would warrant an oil cooler.
If the car is regularly used at trackdays/the strip i think its a good idea.
Having an oil cooler regulates the oil temperature of the oil circulating the system in the engine. The hotter it gets, the thinners it gets, losing its viscosity qualities.
If you look under the engine hood of a rev2,you'll see why i want to relocate the filter too!!

Any one see the Silver R33 at Engine Advantages?
The cooler on that thing was the size of a large intercooler!

Hi Andy,

Thats was my plan for the relocation, just to check have you protected your rubber hosing coming from the take off? I am just concerned about heat issues.

Elmo,

I will try and get 3 kits made, 1 just to relocate the filter on the Rev1/2 engine and then oil cooler kits for both engines.

Cheers

Doesn't the MK2 have an oil cooler as stock?

The Mk1 NA does (was not fitted on teh SC or JDM cars though). Has a water/oil cooler.

Yes it does, a tiny one located under the manifold which isnt the best place for it and its tiny. Fine for road use but maybe not on track?

An external cooler will give enhanced cooling to help drop the oil temps if the oil goes beyond 75 degC - over hot oil means it breaks down, lubrication is lost and cooling properties are also lessened.

Also a big advantagte for the Rev1/2 lot is they can move the filter from the stupid place it has next to the downpipe.

Cheers

Just whizzed through the rest of this.

James, it sounds like the oil is to be diverted to the oc at certain temps. Is this how it works as stock?

If not is this likely to effect oil pressure?

i've had oil coolers instock for about 3 years, £240 delivered, everything you need but there was never any demand for them.

Just sold 3 of them to the states for cheap just to get shot of them as they've been there for the last 3 years without selling 1.

No-one ever shop around in the uk anymore ](*,)
