Any old Lambda sensor?

I'm fairly certain that my Lambda sensor is knack'd. (I'm getting 19 miles to the gallon at the moment! )

I notice it's a 1 wire sensor. I am sure someone said that all Lambda sensors are made to the same standard. Is that right?

I'm off to the scrapyard to go and pull one of something. Anyone know if I'm wasting my time?

if your anywhere near a 'partco' they do brand new 'universal' ones and as i remeber there quite cheap!!!!!

ive used MANY of these on other cars and NEVER had an issuse!!!

if you cant get one call me and ill pick one up for you we could even have it fitted track side at york if your up for it!!!!

i get about 20-25mpg in my sc. how do i know my lambda sensor is okay? (that's the oxygen sensor, right?) is it easy to test?

Errm, how cheap is cheap? I still haven't been to the scrapyard as I was waiting for replies.

The car is horribly overfuelling, can't find anything else wrong, so I'm guessing it's the Lambda sensor. Will go to scrappy and see what I can find....

I’m sure I heard someone on here say that the screw switch by the throttle plate on the TVIS section not only controls the tick over speed but can also affect the fuelling mixture throughout the rev range? I’m not sure if this is true or not as when I got my MK1 a couple of months ago was idling around 1400 even when it was warm. So altered the screw switch by the throttle plate to get it to idle at around 1000revs. Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in fuel economy but it doesn’t seem to be quite as fast in the TVIS zone as it used to be?? Could just be my imagination tho as I’ve got used to my car?

Mark tried a few diferent replacement types on his SC, none lasted so the OEM one was the only realistic option if you wanted it to last longer than a year.
