[Mk2] [NA] Replace engine or not?

Just bought a rev 2 tintop with rev 3 na engine fitted.
Knocking and some smoke.

Was going to pull sump to check shells and replace in situ but now wondering what other damage has been done by lack of oil pressure.

Now thinking of replacing with another rev 3 engine which can be sourced for a few hundred quid.

Opinions?
