That's only 25 miles of 15 second bursts of boost. I think it's sustained driving at high boost where things go wrong.]

Fine tuned with a fuel pressure reg and a safc2 (map sensor controller), just tweaked by me on the road.

Oh I see, so they are like a halfway step between OEM and a full standalone ?

Pretty much, but I've been able to do everything myself and not rely on anyone else so can fine tune to my hearts content and not take things to the extremes like when tuning on a standalone. I couldn't tell you what hp it was making, but I'm not aware of anyone in the U.K. putting down the times and speeds on the 1/4 mile i did last couple of years on the 20b.
Obviously required if uprating injectors, but the oem type ecus are decent I think.

Usual bolt ons and boost upto 1.2bar. I could be lucky but i doubt it.
I said upto 1.2bar but i rarely went up to that. Don't wanna sound like a smart ass but i always had my own limiter in my brain that eased off for fear of detonation

I just set my boost to 1.1bar then trimmed the duty.

I'm sure there are plenty others.

Now with low compression pistons and WI I've done all i can to protect against detonation so i can relax a little

Second this, I've been running 1.1/1.2 for the past 3 years with no problems, just always have the thought in the back of my head, keep an eye on EGT temps as well. Must admit though, this thread has made me think about this happening a lot more now. Having said that, I've never driven my car relentlessly all day like you had with ML (great video by the way, car looked spot on, great representation for MR2 fans) if I was going to be doing that I would probably push my boost back down to either 0.7 or 0.9 to be on safer side.

Thats the thing, it was lol. I drive no differently then how the video showed.
actually a fair amount of the video was me driving.

As Simon has said, its a case of the map and bad DET !
Still thinking if I should make Walton aware ?

Such a shame to see whats happened to your car. Still one of my favourite 2's out there.

Really good video. As others say, its give the MR2 some well deserved light.

I look forward to seeing the build progress

unfortunately mate it'll be a case of "prove it"

As there's no way to show your car detting like a nutter.... it's hearsay. :(

Just have to move on, make people aware of your personal experiences if it comes up, and make it better stronger and faster. :thumleft:

So parts have started arriving at YVS and within a matter of days it seems the
car is pretty much back together and ready !
Simon sent me over photos whilst he was putting it back together.

First of all the CP ( Carillo ) 86mm forged pistons.
Image

He had asked me if I wanted the block painted, which was an easy question.
Image

Pistons back in the block with the block tidied up etc.
Image
Image

New water and Oil pump fitted.
Image

New Helix single plate uprated clutch and ARP head stud conversion.
Image

Head back from machining with all new seals and a re-fresh.
Image

Getting there :D
Image

This photo just makes me really want to get stuck into painting the cam
cover / heat shield and inlet with the black UHT wrinkle paint that I'm aiming
to do real soon.
Image

Whilst Simon was at it, I asked for the AC system to be fully removed and
have ended up with a much better looking front end, I will use the Border
relocation kit for the rad ( or my own version ) once I get a Border front
bumper.
Image

Then the following day !
Image

Not far from completely finished :D

Thanks Guys, have to say I'm clasping at the bit to be back in it again.
even if the drive back from YVS will be running it in and all non motorway
roads !

Gonna have to plan a route that makes it 300 miles and doesn't touch long
runs of motorway etc. Should be fun however. Especially if the weathers good.

Nice job - very fast too :thumleft:

What are your doing map-wise on the G4? Are you leaving as is? If not, have you thought about getting it run in on the dyno and then straight to power mapping?

Whoever maps it, make sure they look after cylinders two and three with fuelling. It was this that killed my engine last year (ringland on 2 due to running lean) so this time around I've made sure they know what they're doing prior to mapping (different mapper, needless to say!).

Well needless to say I won't be going back to Nispro ! I'm actually booked
in with Fensport for the mapping on the 27th of April, they can't do sooner
but TBH I don't believe id have the money to do until then anyway.

Simon said its best to run the engine in under load and he's not a fan of Dyno's
and prefers road mapping which Fensport do. He said the current map will
be ok to drive back in, just don't hit hard boost.

Does make you wonder when you see people's progress threads and the car is sitting at the workshop for months for a similar amount of work..... :-k

Should be done in time for Japfest then!
