im curious to find out how much these cars were sold for new back in japan and adjust it into todays money

around £25K if memory serves. UK NAs were £16750.

The GT model in Australia was $62,000 in 1994. Thats crazy for an n/a. Going on todays exchange rate (close enough) that would be £31,000 in 1994!!

1990 top gear featured the new mk2 MR2 gti at a cost of £16750.

MR2 turbos cost between 2.7-3,000,000 jpy when new, depending on the year and trim level. For example in 1998 the G limited (not the poverty spec G) was from 2,375,000 to 2,608,000 and the turbo ranged from 2,713,000 to 3,095,000
So what's that.. about 15% more across the board for a turbo. Given the same-ish trim and roof choice, you can extrapolate UK gti prices from the time and have an educated guess at how much a U.K. Turbo would have been, had they been officially imported
