If you've got the time and the skills you can easily rebuild a caliper. :thumleft: I did all 4 on my 2. The hardest bit I found was getting the circlip back in place after replacing the boot. Trying to do that without tearing your lovely new boots is a challenge.

Time , Patience .... skills lol. Id rather not attempt to do anything major with
brakes myself. That way I have 100% confidence that the braking system is perfect !

The full rebuild kits cost a fair bit more than that to do it right.

You need -

1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-SW ... 1654254659

1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-SW ... 2128897985

1x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-SW ... 1958725150

2x http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-SW ... 1369777214

The rear kit that comes with the piston is an empty piston with no handbrake mechanism - it is possible to transfer them, but it's long, fiddly, and time consuming. This saves a lot of time / aggro. There may be nothing wrong with your existing pistons, if you're going to reuse check them very carefully. Any pitting they should be replaced as the pits will just collect crap and accelerate corrosion, shortening the lifespan.

Probably wise to replace the bleed nipples as well while you're at it.

£341 for 4 fully rebuilt calipers is a good deal. Assuming that's calipers only (no carriers), then all you need to do is replace your slider bolts on your existing carriers.

Yeah I'm going to speak to the garage when I deliver on Friday and
see what they think will be a better cost option. Im tending to think TCB's
option will be cheaper.

Quite possibly, it's quite a time consuming job.

So the "Marmite Mod" has been done, not the hardest job ever,
However fiddly and took a fair bit of cleaning the tyres with a
degreaser to get the tyre shine out of the rubber.

Top Side of stickers:

Bottom Side:

I used a marking point on the Tyre to make sure that all the stickers
were in the exact same location, and so that spacing was bang on and perfect.
and began to apply the first one. These are Vulcanised pieces of rubber
that you glue using a special rubber glue.

After 2 or so hours, I had done all stickers and stepped back to see the effect.

Is there not a risk with stickers that the flex in the tyre will make the sticker come off?

Yeah TBH I'm still a little undecided.
But I think it will look a little more
in keeping when I go a little more aggressive with the
Aesthetics. Im going slightly "Time Attack" aero style.

Splitter with bars , dive planes ( canards )
rear diffuser , skirt sills etc.... maybe a BGW :-k

In regards to flex on the stickers, Im hoping not.
These are sold worldwide as permanent stickers !
If they did have any Issues ill just kick off and get
a re-fund.

Saying that though the AD08R is known for having
extra wire in the sidewall to counteract flex / tyre roll.
Ive seen plenty of other high performance cars with these
so they are "for show", but can handle the "go" I'm assuming.

Yeah you've got the problem of rubber flex and even if you scuff it off rubber doesn't take glue very well..

I think it was just a matter of when they peeled off.

Yeah, TBH Im not entirely sure I liked it anyway.
it looks great on a Evo or a Caged track inspired Civic etc
on Instagram. But on the sleek lines of the MR2 I kinda feel
it took away any amount of prestige the car has with its looks.

Anyway, they are coming off. A lot of effort for little reward ! :boohoo:

Good news is , The brakes are being sorted as we speak.
Took the day off on Friday with a plan of getting the car to
Accelerated Motor Repairs, I had recently taken out a years worth of AA membership
and knowing they had low loaders thought thats my ticket lol.

Drove the car 1/4 mile down the road to the local, and called recovery,
telling them the truth about the brakes and the callipers etc, just maybe
changing the dates in which it happened lol, Even though I told them it was
to low for towing on their transit tow systems they tried but failed. So
I waited 90 minutes ( walked home and had breaky ) and returned for the low
loader to take us to the garage.

Image

Danny at Accelerated has called today and advised that both the rear callipers
are badly seized / binding, but the fronts are not to bad,
and its up to me wether to do all four. I have decided to do so, as then everything in the braking
system will be brand new and tip top condition.

Ordered 4 new callipers from Phil at TCB to be delivered tomorrow.

Good News :D

Refund given, but not as you might think.
Basically after going back and forth with a pay pal dispute,
TirestickersUK wouldn't budge and I escalated it with pay pal.
However the first girl I spoke to wouldn't side with me and
closed the case before I got a chance to speak with her manager.

The manager called me back and was so upset with her not allowing me
to speak my side of the dispute that Pay Pal directly refunded me,
got my £94.48 back :D

Yes thats right.... they were nearly £100 !

Yes Sir !!

I personally think there was something off with the glue they
supplied, They are big in the american tuner scene at the moment.
I liked the look on Instagram, but on my car.... wasn't keen.

Oh well, all's well thats ends well. :D
