[Mk2] [NA] How easily should calper piston slide back?

Post by acf8181 »

Rear, using the proper too to turn as is pushed in, master cylinder reservoir cap removed and it has gone back but was very stiff (couldn't turn tool with just hand, had to put ratchet handle on it).

Fear i need a new caliper....where's cheapest to get a recon these days (used to use camskill for parts but they only appear to do tyres now)?

I'd have thought you would need the ratchet handle.

Though i did manage to do mine with a big file...lol

Check the rubber seal for damage.

depends which rewind tool your using really, you should be able to wind the piston in and out with a pair of long nose pliers without too much effort

from what ive seen/experienced the rear pistons don't seize anywhere near as much as the fronts do, it's the handbrake part of the caliper that fails on the rears.

pump the piston out carefully peel the dust boot back and smear red rubber grease on the piston and work the piston in and out a few times it will probably free up

They should all go in with relative ease.

When I did my brake pads a few months ago I could push my fronts in by hand.
