Loss of Power - 3sge

Post by iCaaammii »

Afternoon you lot of intelligent beings.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a Jap Imported Rev3 3sge.

Long story short, after experimenting, on a cold start my car operates normal, revs quickly and pulls good (cold start - bad I know but just a test). However after about 30 seconds of driving and it heats up I have a loss a power, pulls alot slower, feels like I have about 100 bhp at the wheels. Any ideas?

Have you checked the ECU for fault codes?

I had a similar thing, after changing no end of expensive parts, it was solved only when I replaced the cheap exhaust and cat.

Have you replaced yours recently?

It had a nasty made subaru muffler with a cat when I bought it, swapped it with a decat powerflow that came with the car, may be a possibility however I do get full power on a cold start up for about 30 seconds

Ecu temp sensor might be shot. Cheap to swap out.
Or idle control valve may be sticky or poor plug connection. Has the throttle body coolant hoses been bypassed?
Blocked fuel filter. Initial cold start OK as pump has built up pressure?

What effect would bypassing coolant hoses have? Surely a positive effect as lower temperatures on the inlet manifold / throttle body?

Or could it be that its confusing the ecu?

Sorry if that came accross rude! don't mean it to be but generally interested as did this on my old MR2

most Toyotas of this period use an idle control valve which is surrounded by a jacket of coolant. This jacket of coolant has quite an effect on the operation of the valve and as such by-passing it often has long term issues arising from it.

Ah never thought of that! Probably not such a good idea to do it on my new car then lol!

Cheers!
