Gates alternator belt too big?

Post by CalMac »

Not sure if I've just somehow lost a part or re-fitted something incorrectly, but is this alternator belt too big? I bought it as advertised for a 3SGTE http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts-i ... earchPart=

P/N on the sleeve is 4PK833

Just wanted to check I'm not being a dumba$$ before exchanging it

As you can see, tensioner bolt is at it's tightest having reached the end of the alt. bracket slot and the belt is still very loose.

Thanks!

Should be a 4PK825.

You can get them from EuroCarParts for about 8 quid.

Great picture to show anyone wanting to know how to change an alt belt.

And what it looks like when something's wrong

Currently being told I'm an idiot by the company I bought it from, they're insisting their code is right despite me sending that photo

Morons - the photo is indisputable.

Your nearest ECP will have the right belt.

Looking at the photo again, it looks like that belt is WAY too long. You're at maximum adjustment and it's still very slack. I'm wondering if they've sent you an air con drive belt, which is considerably longer than an alternator belt?

Are there any markings on the belt itself?

The belt just has concurrent 4PK833 print on it.

They've asked me to measure the length of belt I need and get back to them, which I'll do tomorrow. May as well try and resolve the issue through them now as I'm not in any hurry and I want to get to the bottom of this  Thanks for the ECP P/N though :)

Brilliant.

833 is only 8mm longer than an 825 so shouldn't be a problem :thumleft:

Is this the engine that will be running the TD06 ?

Getting there Martin, just slowly re-attaching stuff and cleaning bits up as I go. I'd like to have it running by Christmas, which isn't bad after 2.5 years off the road

And yep this is the Td06 engine :thumleft:

Haven't even looked at upgrades yet, literally just going to be taking it very easy at low boost as the engine is stock. It'll have to be an 'upgrade bits at a time' job or I'll keep putting off getting it out of the factory..
