Manual Boost Controllers

Post by mr299ron »

Is anyone running an MBC? What model and from where?

I will buy an EBC in the future, however I would just like to raise the boost from 0.5 bar (from warm!) to a measly 0.6 or 0.7.

For the best results make sure it's a ball and spring type MBC.

I emailed Chris, but he doesn't have any MBC's available.

Any form of ball and spring type controller with a locking nut, that also isn't from poundland, seems like it could do the trick.

But the thing is the car is noticeably different between cold and warm. The gauge reads 5 psi when cold and 8 psi when warm. The car feels noticeably different. I honestly think it's just a bad gauge now, as the difference in figures is the same from cold to warm.

I.e on my gauge it's 5 to 8 psi

the car should be showing 7 to 10 psi

Why would the car show 5psi, then up it 8 degrees when warm? Timing out?

Come to think of it, I think there's an issue with the vsv and/or spring that releases the boost pressure.

I reckon it's a little worn and won't open up as it should.

I'm going to install an MBC and disable vsv and see what happens.

Do you know what size hose ID I'll need for this? 3mm? 5mm?

Do you reckon either of the following will be good?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380483835616? ... EBIDX%3AIT

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190884940904? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Let me know what you think. Both with a 5mm internal diameter.

b0ll0x, shouldn't have bought the other one. Nevermind, I'll just replace a couple of lines for sh1te and giggles.

So, with hitting boost when cold at 5psi and about 8 when warm, do you reckon the wastegate spring is just weak and thus why I'm seeing the difference of 3 psi between cold and warm, but not a "from the factory" boost pressure reading?

Fitting an MBC seemed to solve this problem for you I guess. Did you have the exact same issue as me?
