Standard Rev 1 Turbo Quicker than a Rev 3....or just my imagination??

Back in 1996 I had a Standard 1991 Rev 1 turbo car.

I remember it being seriously quick, really threw you back in your seat and made your head snap back. It used to scare my missus at the time when I put my foot down in 2nd.

15 years later I had a turbo conversion done on my NA car. Rev 1 engine with Rev 3 upgrades including a ct20 turbo.

Anyway, I still feel like my Rev 1 back in 96 was quicker than the car I have now but that's not possible is it??

Pete did a great job on my engine so I am confident that the engine is perfect.

Is this just because generally cars were slower back then so the Rev 1 was super quick in comparison.

I would think too much time has passed to be able to judge with any accuracy

As you get older it takes more speed to impress you i think

When i was 18 a golf VR6 felt like a rocket ship, doesn't anymore!

Ct26 turbo comes in with a bang, ct20 more progressive. Feels like less kick but you win further up the revs.

Yes I was aware that the ct20 stayed longer than the ct26. Maybe a possible reason for my thinking. Maybe I am not going insane after all.

excuse to get it on the dyno.

ct26 is more punchy. but i doubt you were making more top end power back then than you are now.

maybe more torque back then.

Yeah I am pretty sure it probably wasn't faster.

Was a bit of a fun post really to see if anyone else felt the same about a car they had in their younger days.

I obviously need to get more power!

I know what you mean, the same was for me when I fitted CT20 instead of CT26.
With CT26 you have something like this: no power, no power, then instant power and then again no power

That instant power was really good, but it was short.

With CT20 I have no that instant power, but it holds boost to redline and overall car should be faster.

Sort of .. but the exhaust gases still have to make there way through the crap flowing turbine.. ct20b for the win
