4AGZE: ABV bypass vs. ABV blanking
Alright so after some research I've seen some good arguments on either side of the fence for both bypassing and blanking off the ABV when you fit a bigger pulley. From what I gather, it's better to blank off the ABV when dealing with one of the larger crank pulleys (I'm going for the 176mm Fensport upgrade) so would it be more beneficial for me to simply blank it off?

Just blank it off. Doing the ABV mod is a crap way of doing it.
There seems to be no downsides into blanking off the ABV entirely. I did this for 30K miles as did others I know. No problem. It's a no brainer as we tried the 'ABV mod' and found it weeped boost pressure.

If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

I've never even had an ABV on mine.

I've heard claims that blanking it off completely can lead to excessive wear on the S/C unit, not looked into it massively but wouldn't blanking off the ABV completely force air to go through the S/C even when not on boost?

I suppose that's an effective way of bypassing it

But when you're not on boost the SC clutch is disengaged and the rotors are no longer driven..... so no that wouldn't matter.
I've always just blocked it off, never had a problem on mine or any customers SC.

What Paul said, complete non-issue.

I see, so there's no real benefits whatsoever to just bypassing it then?

The benefit is your engine gets all the boost pressure and it doesn't get leaked out through the ABV.
I used to spend a lot of time on the US SC forum. After a while I realised that they do seem to talk a lot of crap. That was my experience ten years ago, no idea if it has changed or not, but I doubt it.

Haha that's Americans for you and I meant there's no benefit to bypassing as opposed to blocking it. So the bypass does essentially the same thing, only there's the risk of you leaking boost?

Re: 4AGZE: ABV bypass vs. ABV blanking
The benefit is blocking it completely. I had a custom flange made up for the outlet of the SC to take the ABV out of the equation completely.
I was really saying that switching the VSV's around as some do is not the way to do it.
