[Mk2] [NA] NA Emissions (again)

Post by matgd »

Afternoon all,

I have searched a few times now and see this has been covered a lot but cant really see an answer to the problem, so please bear with me :D

My rev 3 has just been put through an emissions test prior to an MOT and it failed on CO on both fast idle and second idle. The results were 0.5% and 0.45%. The cat is only 14 months old and I remember it struggling through the last test but we put it down to it not being heated through fully yet and thought nothing of it. The car is mainly a track car so isn't used much at all and has had a decat on it for the majority of the year. Plugs were changed last year.

There are no error codes up at all and the car seems to run ok.
Is it the lambda sensor at fault? if there was anything wrong with the lambda sensor would it not show the `check engine light` on the dash?

I really don't want to buy another cat as the car will be off the road after the next track day for a considerable amount of time.

Thanks for any help!
:D

Good read, thanks for the link.

So the lambda sensor is giving out normal voltages and there's no error codes up and can't find any leaks in exhaust so according to that page it has to be the cat. An email has been sent to the supplier along with test results. Will wait to see what they say.

Turns out that due to a high Co count on the second idle test along with the HC results, the catalytic convertor was faulty. The supplier is sending a full refund! Score. :thumleft:

Good stuff, hope that sorts it for you.

Once it has passed, could you post the full emissions of the fail and the pass? So the natural idle CO, fast idle CO, lambda, and HC's? Might be easier to just take a photo. There's quite a few people having issues with emissions at the moment on here, MR2OC and Facebook so it would be good to have a few examples of figures and fixes as it might help others solve their issues.
