MK1A brake master cylinder leaking - Options?

Post by Tiger Tim »

Hi All,

The master cylinder in my MK1A started leaking. Called to my local Toyota dealer this morning & neither the seal kit nor the complete master cylinder are available – both discontinued. What are my options. I seem to remember that Paul Woods found a solution by fitting master cylinder from MK2 non ABS but not sure if this will fit the MK1A. Any other options out there. All help appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

Use the Mk1b servo and then the Mk2 rev2- non ABS one will bolt up to that, the Mk1b servo is bigger as well, so win win.

Thanks Paul. You're a genius.

Any chance anyone has the part no for the Mk2 rev2- non ABS master cylinder. Might price one from Mr T.

Thanks,

T.

47201-17130 is the whole assembly from Toyota but i bet it is an absolute fortune, much better finding a used one on Ebay like this one....

Thanks Paul,

Just ordered that master cylinder. Will have to make up connection for warning light. Should be able to get a servo locally.

This started be thinking about spares availability. Looks like we will be soon depending on work-arounds to keep the MK1 on the road. I'm sure other parts have been discontinued by Mr T.

Luckily for us that you're always experimenting,Paul, & have such a great technical knowledge.

Many Thanks,

Tim

Well i do spend a lot of time finding other parts that will work so we can save these cars long term, the Mk2 brake MC is a nice little upgrade at the same time though :thumleft:

Now have MK2 master cylinder & MK1B servo.

Before I connect everything up, is it worth gutting the brake bias valve.

Don't think it was giving any issues but I do see that some people gut the bias valve.

many Thanks,

Tim
