[Mk2] [NA] Oil Warning Light

Post by Jay1b »

Hello

I'm having an issue with my MR2 Rev1 where the oil warning light comes on whilst driving the car. It will then go off again and then come on again. There seems to be no pattern.

I recently had the car serviced, including an oil change. It was doing it beforehand and its still doing it. Rather stupidly I forgot to mention it when I dropped the car off.

From speaking to a friend of mine, he has suggested that its either a broken oil pressure switch or the oil pump is on its way out.

Is this a common issue?

Thanks

Jay

Hopefully sensor .. I read a while ago if your oil pressure light comes on its illuminating to tell you your engines toast .. get a multimeter on the sensor .. best of luck mate hope its not the pump.

Thanks. From doing a bit of research on here I don't think it's anything to worry about. It's the Orange light that shows if the oil level is low. So I think either that sensor is faulty or it's been blocked up by the old oil that was years and years old. As long as I check the dipstick frequently I don't think it will be a problem.

On an old mr2 the cable to the sensor snapped due to heat from exhaust, easy fix just spliced in a new bit of cable
