I have just sat and read through all of this, Peter.
Very impressive machine and ideas.

Very much this.

No matter how suited to the application, those coloured crimps will always look wrong, though.

Fascinating thread and I'm guessing a good showcase of Peter's mad skillz.

There's a Noble feature up on SH today: http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/10/bre ... ass-noble/

Whilst printer is test pringting the carbon fibre offcut, rewire has started.

First batch of Deutsch plugs arrived:

Started with heater control plug:

Next was first of two plugs for the Dash2. I've designed the new loom so one plug interfaces with the main dash loom, the other with the data logger and auxillary sensor inputs. Engine parameers will be inputted via CAN direct from the ECU.

So first plug finished, and test:

For a change of scenery i spent an evening in my cellar on the lathe. Made some spacers for the latching relay boards.

Perfect fit!

Back to loom wiring later this week...

Well it's been a very busy 3 months. This dash project has turned out to be a lot bigger project than i predicted. But it's almost at the stage of refitting.

So, first update. I'd already modified the original dash to convert the 2 humps for the speedo and tacho to one hump for the Dash2, and mounted the Dash2 onto the dash face:

Image

However, what i really wanted was to set the Dash2 into the dash, and i knew i wouldn't be happy unless it was done.

So, first i made a silicone plug of the Dash2, then made another a little larger all round:

Image

Then took a grp mould of the plug, and took a mould of that. Tidied the shape up:

Image

Then took a mould of that:

Image

Then marked up on the dash where the panel was to go, and carefully cut a hole. Using quick set epoxy adhesive, glued the panel into position ready for bonding in:

Image

Flipped the dash over, and from behind, fully bonded the two panels together. Then took it round to Dave at DEeepcar Autobidies, for filling, flatting and priming. Et voila:

Next update will be the centre panel...

Back to the centre panel.

This is how it looked after Reverie had routed the holes according to my plans:

Image

I then contacted a client of Carol's who has a couple of these:

Image

State of the art, £35K digital printers. 8)

He test printed onto the scrap carbon from cutting out the hole for the Garmin. That piece was then sent to Reverie for lacquering to ensure there was no reaction between the digital printing ink and the epoxy lacquer. All worked out well.

Met up with Glenn after work one evening. Chose a font to match the engine start button, lots of size and quality image editing, and lots of test printing.

At the end of the evening we had this:

Image

Panel text printed, buttons printed and both logos at bottom of panel printed.

Panel was then sent back to Reverie for lacquering and bonding of the previously prepared Garmin bezel.

2 weeks later i had this:

The 4 circuit switches were a special order from Canada and were going to be on a 6-8 week lead time, so i set about the next project - A TPMS.

Those that have seen my Group Buy know that i wanted a compact system, ideally in a gauge, but Stack's system was out of the question at £2400.

So i chose this:

Image

Perfect - small, well very small, temps and pressures, and good looking.

But i wondered ... how small? Hmmmmm ... Would it fit? ... Could i make it fit? So, out with the Dremel. And i cut open the case to reveal this:

Image

Next problem was those two SMD push button switches at the bottom of the pcb. So out with the magnifying glass and soldering iron. I desoldered the switches and soldered on jumper wires, and as the solder pads are so small, i epoxy'ed the wires to the pcb so save them getting pulled apart. Jumper wires are 6" long and terminate in a ON-OFF-ON momentary switch to imitate the original push button switches.

Next i got on to Reverie, and had them custom route me a circular disc out of 0.8mm prepreg carbon with hole in the middle exactly same as the original casing. Light, strong and thin.

Image

Then i had the disc painted to match Noble OEM gauges.

Image

Then a call to Glenn at InstantPrint who printed my dash. If it was going to match the Noble boost gauge which i'm keeping in the car, i'd need the Noble logo printing on the face. After a few hours work late one evening, i had this:

Image

Looks pretty good match to me:

Image

Carefully slid the pcb into the housing, and all the time spent measuring paid off:

Image

I have a TPMS in a gauge!!! 8) :D

Final job. In the event of an alarm, either of the push buttons needs to be pressed to reset. So i soldered an additional pair of wires to one pair of the jumpers, and made another trip back to Glenn:
