New MR2 owner plate holder question

Post by Lcfcdan »

Hello all, new to the forum and MR2s in general, I have picked up a project which I'm trying to restore to its former glory. My first question is how so you remove the front number plate holder? I have unscrewed the number plate and removed that, unscrewed the screws holding the plate holder in place, there is also 2 10mm bolts. They are loose but won't come free, are they held in with a nut behind the front bumper? If so how do I access it?

Hope this makes sense

If you can't reach them from underneath after removing the undertray it sounds like you'll need to cut them off or remove the nose itself to get at them.

Screws

Could you try wedging a small screwdriver under the hex screw head and unscrew? it might just stop something revolving, i thought the 2xM6mm screws with 10mm socket heads screwed into a single plate thats encased in the foam behind the bumper cover.

Good luck

^This. The plastic behind the bumper that holds the bolt fittings gives way and the bolts just spin.

There are two metal plates with pins on one side which I think dig into the polystyrene and captive nuts for the mounting bolts. These can be seen in the pictures below.

Thanks guys, I will investigate in more detail on Saturday but it sounds like cutting it is the way, they both have some severe play in them so I'm not sure of the state of the plate behind
