Re: 3SFE upgraded to 3SGTE
I'm a moron eh?
Ok whatever, at least i tried to help you and didn't resort to name calling.
I'd say you have a life expectancy of around a fortnight here with that great attitude you have.
Good luck with your 89mm pistons in your 3s-fe block

Like I said you can't read!
As I have already said I have more than 1 car and that I am not going to bother changing the 3sfe engine just fix it as everyone has advised against it!
My other car is a turbo and already has alot of upgrades and was talking of doing these upgrades to this engine.
Also nowhere does it say how long I have owned MR2's and for your information its a few years.
Maybe if you tried reading previous posts you might not get called a moron!

I will probably change the inlet manifold as the non turbo manifold actually has better airflow and doesn't make the engine run lean on cylinder 3 and will give better performance.
Yep- the general consensus based on the collective experience is to keep pistons as close to 86mm as possible. On the earlier engines (rev 1 & 2) the blocks seem to crack around the water pump housing, on the later blocks they seem to crack in cylinder, or on the deck between 2 & 3.
It may largely be tuning based (retarded ignition) that causes the damage, but it does appear that there is an underlying weakness in the blocks.
I did note that the 503e ran 7.0:1 compression, maybe another reason why they managed to run with a potentially weak block? This would allow plenty of advance...
Agreed on not using the stock turbo manifold, not convinced the NA setup is your best alternative though- the plenum volume is not ideal, nor the length of the runners. Have a look at "RacerX Fabrication"- Jeff will build you a tuned manifold with tapered runners to your own specifications, and will certainly help you pull the extra power that you are looking for.
Have you looked at Forced Performance (HTA) turbos, or the Garratt GTX series? Might be worth a look...
Good luck!

Re: 3SFE upgraded to 3SGTE
I am just about to finish off an Austin Healey Sprite for my customer and have already built him a hill climb mini and helped him with his Austin Healey 100/4 I also did some work on his Porsche Boxster and his Ford GT40 so apart from the Boxster most of the stuff I work on is a lot older than my MR2 obviously this is just the cars I've worked on recently for him. Still some nice cars and the cheapest there would be the Boxster and its probably worth more than all my cars lol
Re: 3SFE upgraded to 3SGTE
