UK NA owners - whats your RPM at 70mph?

Post by acf8181 »

Have heard a rumour of different gear ratios on the imports, and after having my first long motorway drive i feel like i'm at a higher rpm than i used to be when i had a UK car

I'm at about 3750rpm at 70 (gps)...what about you?

Around 3000 - 3200rpm at 70mph, mine is a standard UK N/A.

EU S54's have a slightly longer final drive:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_S_transmission#S54

WW: 4.176:1
EU: 3.944:1

Lets do some maths, or rather get a website to do it for us:

http://www.endtuning.com/gearratios.html

In an EU car, your RPM @ 70MPH (assuming stock tyres / wheels) is ~3200RPM.

In an import car, your RPM @ 70MPH (assuming stock tyres / wheels) is ~3400RPM.

Assuming the wiki article is correct, of course!

If you can find the ratios this is quite useful

good stuff!

i think i could conclude that sounds about right, as who knows how precise the rev counter, or my eyes, are!

75MPH gives ~3600RPM, 80MPH gives ~3850RPM so if your speedo is over reading a little which is pretty normal, your figure adds up :)

I noticed quite a bit of resonance at ~3700RPM or so when I had my stock exhaust on, I'm sure my aftermarket Janspeed pipes with a decat are quieter when cruising at motorway speeds!

It's quite a bit noisier at most other times though...

Is ok, rarely use it for long journeys as have a diesel hatch as well
