Not started for about 6 weeks - crank by hand first?

Post by JD »

Have I left it too long to safely start with the motor? If so I'm just going to take the plugs out and crank it over by hand, but if this is not necessary I won't bother. Car had fresh oil after last time out.

Just start it up, the only thing I'd be worried about is the battery being flat

Ok thanks :thumleft:

The battery was indeed completely flat so I've most likely just ruined a brand new battery. Still under guarantee, though.

The White Eagle quit often can sit for weeks this time of the year

ive put one of these on the battery, and take it off eveytime she goes back in the garage, it just means scanning for the radio stations again
but i tend to listen to 3-sge, starring K&N with special appearance by Blue flame exhaust hee heee

you can use this one, keeps your alarm working etc but if someone tries to start, after you've removed the connector, it the fuse blows simple basic car security, stops the opportunist perhaps

That's a negative, Jim. I do not have the measles.

Another option is to buy a battery conditioner for £30-£40 - if it's going to be left standing for a while use the conditioner.

I bought a solar powered trickle charger, just need to find the gromet from the frunk to the passenger footwell. Unfortunately the SW2O 12v cig lighter doesnt power up without the key in the ignition :?

I put a second cigar lighter socket under the dash for my solar charger (do this for customers sat navs at work) connected to the join in the alternator to battery cable in the passenger footwell

You could run a live from here to the oem cigar lighter to make it permanently live.

I don't really want to mess around with the car, although the permanent live wire idea sounds great. Just need to know the location of the gromet I'm talking about. Like how owners run wires from the battery for their ICE systems.

Tried to get you a couple of pictures
You can feed in behind the battery by the hoses and comes out under centre of the dash

Or on the passenger side there are two holes (for aircon)

I ran a red wire into each for the pics

Hope this helps

I've started my Mini after months of sitting in the garage, without any problems so 6 weeks will be fine!
