[Mk2] [Turbo] MR2 Turbo newbie - white smoke have I bought a lemon? :(

Post by MUGENMR2 »

Bought a MR2 Turbo Rev 1 a few weeks ago and today while my dad was following me home he noticed white smoke coming from the exhausts when I accelerated. There was still a bit of white smoke coming from the cars exhausts on idle too, when I stopped. The car was cold and I probably shouldn't have accelerated as hard as I did, as It came on boost when it was still cold. I was just too enthusiastic!

I know these cars need a certain degree of mechanical sympathy and should be warmed up and down, which I usually do. I will add I use the Turbo Timer pretty much every time I use it. :-k

Anyway, after I realised it was smoking, I warmed the car up and went for a longer drive. Then pulled over (with engine running) and lifted the bonnet to pull the throttle cable and look what is coming out of the exhaust and it didn't smoke any more. Drove a bit more, again came on boost a few times and pulled over and checked for smoke and no smoke.

So, any suggestions to what It is? Easy fix or is it a lemon :(

Any help would be appreciated :thumleft:

Turbo timers are pointless these days. Modern oils and a little mechanical sympathy like not switching off immediately after a hard run is all that is needed.

As for your problem, who knows. Could have been oil in the intake pipes.

If it's not doing it anymore, i wouldn't worry.
