[Mk2] [NA] Central locking issue

Post by acf8181 »

Bit of an odd one here

Is a gltd fitted with aftermarket alarm

When using button on alarm both doors lock, but will not unlock

When using key in passenger door both doors will lock and unlock

When using key in drivers door only drivers door will lock and unlock!

Any ideas?

That sounds like a a fudged control box to me. I'd hazard a guess that one or more of the capacitors in the box has bulged which is giving bizzare results.

I would locate the alarm brain and take the top off so you can see the board check the cap's for any bulging. Check all wire contacts to the box are good and not corroded.

I would also check the wires in the drivers footwell as it has the the black and black/yellow wire on it twice, as I found after I used the wires nearest the door. Upon investigation I found the same colour wires at the other end of the plug (wing side) used them instead and it all worked as it should

Maybe a daft question but has the remote batteries been changed recently? Maybe it's lost some calibration with the control module.

Do you have a second remote you could try, or is that the same?

Fair enough mine was messing about as one of the door power fuses was missing.

Ok, i'm now thinking its a central locking issue with the car, not the alarm.....reason for this....i disconnected the alarm from the car and its still tempramental!

So, lets forget the alarm....i can unlock both doors with key from passenger side, but not drivers side! I can also unlock using the button on the drivers control panel (tho i think that may be tempramental, and only sometimes works!)
