[Mk2] [NA] Auto Stuck in park

Hey guys I'm a new member hi:-)

I picked up my Mk2 today and I love it, I had a few problems getting it out of park.

The red button works so it's not the end of the world and it has come out of park a few times with the key in the ignition. Am I doing something wrong? Key in, engine running, foot on the break and put it in drive?

If there is a problem with it what should I look for?

Whereabouts are you based?

I've had this on a car about 4 years ago... Trying to remember... IIRC, it was the shift lock control switch that went faulty.

I'm next to Glastonbury in Somerset I can hear something gently knocking in the dash when I try n pull it out of park
