[Mk2] [Turbo] Garages in Scotland to fit a chargecooler??

Post by Ryan S »

as in title, i no longer have the space to do any of my own work to the car and need to get my chargecooler fitted when I get the car back, I'd go to YVS as the car has a bit of history with them, however, after the way i was spoken to (on facebook) by Liz, I'd rather they not see a penny of my hard earned cash. I'm north east (Dundee) but can travel anywhere really :thumleft:

I have the whole set up for a rev3 it's literally just needing fitted.

I'm not too sure about who to recommend for the work as I only use YVS myself and I happily travel for it every single time. (Never once have I had any issues)

Liz is like me.. A spade is a spade. Calls thing as she sees them and quite rightly so. No point in sugar coating poo...

You were speaking to Liz as Liz, you were not speaking to YVS regarding work or asking for help etc... So that has nothing to do with YVS.

You commented on a post I had made on Facebook and started what came across as a p1$$ing contest to the others who had commented or seen the post. That was all.

Let's leave that there and not attempt to slander a garage whom which you have had no direct contact or dealings with.

Na it was totally unrelated, the car just happens to have some reciepts for there for various things, this was before i bought it.I actually thought they were based in Scotland so makes no difference anyway. I'm not trying to slander anyone, i'm sure there work is second to none, i would just rather give my money to somebody else,

So as per the original post. Anywhere in Scotland/north east england able to do this work?

am sure stainless creations in Falkirk could do it - has done loads of work on my mk1's and n/a over the years, often has turbos in getting work done as well as his own track car

Now I've not used stainless creations but paid them a visit and called them.

The visit was a waste of time as the guy I spoke to that was welding the exhaust, something I would reckon they are good at knew absolutely nothing about MR2's and admitted as much. He said that they generally didn't do anything but service them and make exhausts.

So I tried calling them to speak to them about the full turbo conversion I wanted to pay them cash for, the guy on the phone couldn't have done his best to out me off, discourage me from using them and basically say he couldn't be ar$ed.

Maybe I caught them both on off days but didn't inspire me with confidence at all.

I'm surprised at that as they are currently working on a MR2 or their own, however, I won't be using them, after further conversation the guy tried to tell me a chargecooler was a waste of time for my setup (no more than 350bhp) which is total nonsense. He was suggesting a boot mount intercooler. Explained to him that a chargecooler was not only acceptable but it was the route i want to go down, he then couldn't quote me. I'll take my business elswhere :thumleft:

na you're right man, they cannot possibly know their ar$e from their elbow if they recommend fitting a BOOT MOUNT intercooler to a car tha's only 300BHP and will never be more than 350bhp

There is a garage I have used in Falkirk for work on my '2. Not a specialist, but a good old fashioned mechanic. He has owned his Turbo for 20 years so knows them well.

He was really good with me when I could not for the love of god find the leak in my system. Took him a week too with some chin scratching but he figured it out and got the car working for the summer.

He was good on price too, for the hours of labour he charged, there is no way he did it that quickly.

Only used him once but thought he was good, was on the phone a few times with updates of progress too which is really nice.

I'll get the garage details this afternoon (it's on my notice board at home)

ah good man, it's not a particularly difficult job, I just don't have tools or space, :( possibly a bit time consuming. If you could get me the details it'd be very much obliged :thumleft:

Not a problem, it's J.M Motor Engineers ( FK2 9HQ is postcode for google search) and the phone is 01324 611492. I spoke to John, give him a ring and see what he says to it.

He was rather busy when I went which I took to be a good sign! Get a feel for them on the phone though.

If you're not fussed about location I and many others can very highly recommend Nick at Custom Craft in Elgin. He put an absolutely beautiful system on my 2JZGTE Aristo and also put nice systems on my two Celica GT4's. I have to try him for my Merc as it needs a couple of discreet mid -silencers.

I tried a few other places first, have to say Stainless Creations weren't interested a few times I've phoned over the years. They had MR2 systems advertised but didn't really know MR2's when I phoned to ask. Maybe depends who you speak to?

Nick will do most fabrication -as long as it's not CS! He's great at stainless tube work.

I wouldn't trust them to order me a decent fish supper.
