[Mk2] [Turbo] Fitting na gauges in a turbo cluster

Post by Pauln »

I don't believe the n/a and turbo speedo clusters are interchangeable due to wiring differences and differences in the warning light positions, but is it possible to fit n/a gauges into a turbo cluster.

I have a boost gauge in my pillar pod, so the n/a voltmeter will actually be more useful than the useless stock boost gauge that never seems to move. I believe all you have to do to fit a voltmeter in place of the stock boost gauge is to remove the the 1st and 3rd screw (counting from end of cluster) securing the small additional circuit board and link screws 2 and 4, and then swap over the actual gauges.

But was wondering if there are any other issues to worry about. Both speedos read up to 180, and the red line on the tachos is the same.

In case you're wondering why on earth I want to do this, I want to get rid of the white lockwood gauges currently fitted in my tubby and would ideally like to replace them with a set of Speedhut gauges I'm acquiring from an na turbo conversion.

i run a n/a speed unit and rev counter with turbo faces in my import rev2 turbo with a v6 fitted and it all works fine, i changed the face so i could keep the speedhut dials the car came with but wanted to use my n/a tacho as it was modded for the v6 pulse count and the speedo to do away with the limiter as far as im aware all the uk speed units are the same they just change the faces to suit. i also run the voltmeter too as ive no turbo and the way you've said sounds right from what i remember.

also ages ago i had a conversation with paul woods about interchanging all the bits and from what i remember he said the km to mph convertor fitted would keep all the signals correct anyway but ive never checked it against a sat nav as ive not had the car in one piece long enough at any one time yet at some point ill be removing the delimiter to see what happens but that's not much use to you now

That's great, thanks for the confirmation. I thought it ought to be OK, but you always worry in case there's something you've overlooked.
