Hi there everybody,
Rather technical question: is it possible to mount a Celica 3SGTE alternator & bracket on exhaust manifold side, so just over the A/C compressor ?
If there is, what would be the benefits (pros & cons) ?
In advance, thank you.
You could, you'd need the bracket and a new crank pulley and belt, extend the wiring loom etc. Probably not worth it as the celica has a duct to cool the alternator from the front so heat from the exhaust will be an issue.
Any reason why you want to do this?
Probably will clash with the standard intercooler rad, fan, hot and cold pipes and a few other bits.
I doubt the cooling duct would be a big issue as most of the GT4's I've seen (including mine) have had it removed and the altenators don't seem to suffer
on those cars.
If you're running a charge cooler setup it might be a better location than standard?
I asked the question just because changing alternator on a Turbo is a nice labor, and I plan to delete de whole A/C system.
Also to avoid the rain projections to alternator original location,
from the floor when passing a "rain-pool" haha
Thanks guys.

I run my alternator there and have had no issues do far. Don't need to change crank pulley but do need to make a lower slider to tension the belt as the Celica tensioner system is messy using extra pulleys. Also remember te bracket that bolts to head needs match your engine ie rev 1/2 uses st185 bracket, rev 3 uses st205 bracket as the hole spacing is different.
