Handbrake Cable Bellcrank Disassembly

Post by Andy47 »

Whilst changing my handbrake cables, I thought I would take the opportunity to refurbish the steel mounts that bridge the ‘transmission’ tunnel as they are looking a little rusty. The forward most one of these provides a mounting for the handbrake lever cable to equaliser bellcrank. I’d like to do a decent job and would therefore like to remove the component. Before I try to disassemble it, how does it actually go together? Both sides have the head of a pin visible.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure I follow what you are referring to. However, if it is the forward bracket with the bellcrank attached you are hoping to dismantle, I looked into this but couldn't work out ho to get the mechanism apart. In the end I used electrolysis to remove the rust and then had the part plated as is. I then painted the bracket itself.

This worked very well in the end.

Apologies if I didn’t describe it very well, but yes that’s exactly it.

It looks like your part turned out really good, so I might as well just refurbish it whilst leaving the bellcrank attached. Many thanks!
