Brake caliper sticking - advice needed please.

My front o/s brake is sticking on. The car has been standing for a while. I stripped it down today and the piston seems fine. However, the sliders are stiff and one of the rubber boots is torn.

My question is whether you can replace just the slider rubber boot? If not then is it easy to strip the whole lot down and replace all the seals with a kit?

Or should I shell out for a second-hand or reconditioned item?

Yes, it's quite easy to strip the front calipers, clean everything & replace the seals with a kit Widster

However, if the piston isn't sticking you could just clean & grease the slider pins

Slider boots aren't available on their own but someone (possibly me) may have a good used one

A nice bit of red rubber or white grease on those sliders should help nicely,
recently found out copper grease is not that great for the rubber.

Yes that's what I'm going to use. Just need to get a rubber boot for the slider and I'm sorted .

I bought some new old stock recon callipers a few years ago and the slider boots had perished where they had sat around on a shelf.

I was able to buy the boots separately from my local Mr T for a few pounds. They should be able to look up the part numbers for you.

Think I used an old screwdriver to tap the old ones out, then used a socket placed over the new ones resting on the metal outer rim to press/drift them in.

I've stripped my front brake again as it was still sticking. I've now fully regreased the sliders with red grease but it's still sticking. The caliper piston looks ok and not too corroded. Can anyone advise what else it could be? Or does anyone have a secondhand front o/s caliper spare that I could buy? Thanks.

If you've cleaned & greased the slider pins & they move smoothly that takes care of that Widster

I clean the piston & cylinder bore with a mild abrasive (chrome cleaner)

Are the seal & boot in good condition ?

Yes

It's not particularly difficult

Once you've done one you'll be an expert

If the caliper has been sticking for a while you may now have tapered pads and when you refit these pads onto the now free moving caliper the taper on the pads can distort how the caliper sits on the main pin enough for it to bind.
