No MR2s on the road

I went up to Glasgow at the weekend from Cumbria which is around 120 mile trip and, aside from maybe 2 MK3s, I didn't see any MK1 or MK2s at all. Not one, there and back.

Are they becoming extremely rare or are there just not that many up north?

I almost wet myself when I see another MK2 now.

Still see a lot of roadsters and MK2s round my way, quite rare to see a Mk1 though.

MK3s I see all the time, MK1s and MK2s, hardly ever.

Most MK1s have turned into dust, and MK2s are increasingly suffering from sill rot.

Still see a fair few MK2s here, I had a chat with a guy who turned up in sainsburys with a Cosmos blue rev5 that had a tubby conversion!

Theres also a real ratty rev2 glimited rolling around on some nice modena autostrada rims. I'm tempted to see if he'll swap em for some tatty stock ones as he obviously doesnt care that much about the car anyway.

Most of the nice mk2's seem to be hiding at Peters lately although I did hear of one escaping at the weekend!

On a more serious note I think that mk2's must be getting rarer given the amount that are getting broken for spares - what a shame they have a greater value as parts not as a whole car - some very tidy cars being broken up at the moment.

Where I live in Harrogate there is 4 that I have noticed. And then today I noticed a fifth parked outside the local posh car dealer. Looks a lovely Cosmos blue NA. There is a few others and have seen a SMG turbo a few times as well. No mk1's though, quite a few mk3's though.

I think they are defo becoming rare nowadays as peoples daily drivers, 2 seats and poor fuel economy aren't on peoples wish lists.

This is fate that has befallen one of my favorite cars, Mitsubishi Starion. Talk about rare, you cant even find one for sale!

Same thing could eventually happen to the mr2. Constantly seeing them getting scrapped over minor things. Mostly im guessing because people can make more money breaking them.

One day.....even rusty examples will be restored simply because there aren't anymore around as they have all been scrapped.

There aren't unlimited amount of these cars....think about that people when breaking!

Alot of cars of that era becoming rarer. Remember at one point every other car was a escort and every fourth was a xr3i... Almost extinct now. Do see a few mk2 round my way, one looks fairly modified.

want to try and keep hold of mine, imported by me with full Toyota history in Japan and verified miles.

Well i'll never scrap or sell mine so there'll be at least one left. lol

Same with everything though, you can pick an MR2 up for £400 rough mind but still a lot of car for £400, breaking could potentially get double if not more if you break it for spares.
I have a Mini and a Metro GTA too and the amount of people that try to buy them in petrol stations and car parks is unreal, at least once a week someone puts a note under the wiper asking if its for sale and leaving a contact number. Lets be honest, Metro's were pants when they were new and the only thing that gets any better is nostalgia and because its a MK2 A-series engined GTA it is extremely rare now and worth quite a bit.

I say let them scrap/break em, makes ours rarer and more valuable in the long run whilst keeping us supplied with gen parts

There's one yellow rev 1 tubby I se here with a veilside (puke) kit on but worse some panels are painted black.

What gets me about this car is recently it's driven by someone quite old -and make no mistake it's quite a rough car.

...However, this car has the strangest exhaust I have ever seen on any car and not quite sure how possible on an MR2. You just wouldn't fit an exhaust on an SW20 like this, it's a pipe fitters dream, with some convoluted bends does nothing from an exhaust point of view.

....Otherwise I see them now and again, but to be honest how many other cars do you see the same era these days. You'll struggle to see many 2000 cars which aren't bashed to bu88ery up here.
