Is it possible to remove and re fit and exhaust, just the exhaust not the downpipe with out removing the subframe,
The exhaust in question is a pheonix power departure and the one going back on is a buddy club.
Any tips or tricks? How are people getting to the top bolt out of the 3 on the flange.

You don't need to drop the subframe to change an exhaust.

Years ago, me and a mate changed a mongoose exhaust out for a Dep2 Pro.
We just used normal spanners (iirc) and a set of ramps for the rear wheels.

I've done it before without dropping the subframe.
Bit fiddly but def doable.

Completely do-able man, I change mine regularly on the drive way without dropping sub frame. I'd say have 2 of each spanner (to hold one side and twist on other) and a bit of wd40. Swapped my standard to japspeed in 1 hour on a drive way with trolley jack and axel stands. you dont need a swan neck spanner. I used one spanner and a socket wrench and did it no problem

As said, you shouldn't have to remove the subframe to swap out the exhaust.

Yup agree removed my Nurspec before removing subframe easy. The only thing you've gotta worry about is corroded bolts.. get plenty of plusgas and possibly a butane torch depending how bad they are..

I attempted mine with spanners and the car up on jacks... and failed.
Took it to the garage and the 3 nuts had corroded from the downpipe.
Was a couple of hours until they were off, couldn't have done it by myself... check out the situation first.
Once the nuts were off it was plain sailing!

If you're not gonna use the car, go out there every day for several days and spray a good dose of penetrating oil on all the nuts (if you use the car you'll just vaporise it all). Warm up the exhaust a little bit before you start work removing things (helps, but don't run engine so long that it's too hot to touch).
I removed my mongoose on ramps with sockets+ratchet and spanners. I did end up destroying two nuts but you can get a fresh set from Toyota for not much.
90179-10070 nuts for the flanges
90179-12041 nuts for exhaust hanger bolts
90105-12173 exhaust hanger bolts
can't find/haven't got part number for the flange bolts but these will be okay.

Managed easily enough once i got it on a set of ramps.
Only one bolt had to be cut off and it was one of the bolts that mounts the exhaust to the hanger.
