Annoying Idling issue under certain conditions.

Post by orangejunkie »

Hi guys,

its been a very long time since i have found myself posting here, however i am hoping someone out there may be able to point me in the right direction with an issue im having.

As a few of you will know, i bought Dave Purdues` Mr2 Turbo from him last year and it has been fantastically reliable to run more or less everyday last year and pretty much solidly for the last 4 months.

However i am starting to get an issue which is occurring and i would like some pointers just in case i have missed something.

The car drives fine. No issues at all on boost or under load conditions. No mis-firing/hunting/bogging etc. Perfect.
However, after driving the car on boost, the car struggles to then idle at the next junction for 3-4 seconds and then the revs begin to rise again to normal. If you drive the car normally pottering around this issue does not occur at all.

I have also noticed the same scenario occurs AFTER the air con turns itself off. The air con idle up valve seems to work as it raises the revs as normal, but its as it drops again when the a/c switches off that its a problem.

Otherwise, the car is fine. It will sit and idle with no issues and as i mentioned the revs drop to normal if you are driving around town.

All this only happens once the car is fully up to operating temperature. I have raised the idle speed slightly to where i believe it should be (circa 900rpm) as it was on the low side. This was set with the stop-screw.

I have checked for vacuum leaks with wd40 and there appears to be none. I did notice evidence of a boost leak and tightened the offending hose clamp, but this has not cured it.

Ignition components appear to be in good condition and in good working order. I have no DV running on the car, so this can be ruled out too.

I did have a couple of air pockets in the coolant system but these have been bled out now.

Confused.com.

I understand these run an idle control valve so this was going to be my next route in perhaps trying to clean it out, although the last time the intercooler pipes were off, the body was pretty clean.

Hoping someone can help.

What year is the car? Do you have a vent to atmosphere BOV fitted?

It's a Rev3.

It's not running any BOV. Neither stock recirc or atmospheric.

Okay, it's not what I was thinking of in that case.
