ok, so the car is away to go for a respray shortly, i'm seriously thinking about the ab flug kit (i know it's not to everyones taste so no grief about it please), my question is, do i have to cut the rear wheel arches in order to get a decent fit? i've read that the rear arches are about 50mm extra, so the wheel will need to come out a fair bit. anyone have any experience with the kit??

If your on Facebook, have a search for Owen Autobodies. He's in the process of fitting a full ABFlug bodykit to his MR2. I'm sure he'll be able to assist you

I've just got the abflug arches. Not fitted yet. But I was under the impression that the originals needed to be cut back in order to stop the wheels rubbing.

Depends on your wheels and tyres really Sheppy, I have my ab-flug arches roughed into place and I know for sure the rear arch needs cutting ( blitz type 03's 17 inch and I will get you the tyre size later )I think being totally honest here if you try to fit wheels and tyres that will fit with the arch extenders on and no trimming up on the arches the wheels are going to look a bit lost and set back. I will see if I can get you some pictures over the weekend.

yeah, i'm either gonna use hubcentric spacers or get wheels to fit, having had a proper look, i can't see anyway this could fit without cutting the arches, even if i have to cut the arches it looks fairly straight forward to fit i almost bought the kit today but got busy at work
these are my current wheels, after spending £500+ just on the kit then another £1500+ on a respray, i would be too skint to get the right wheels straight away, so spacers would have to do in the meantime.

yeah, you will need to trim all four arches.. the fronts, obviously only a single skin, will take 2 mins with a cutoff wheel
the rears will need the inner and outer skin welding together once cut
like so http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-1003- ... erfenders/
unless you're planning on running some crazy wide wheels (like 9's up front and 10.5/11's rear) or you've found your dream wheels but they're ET0 then is there really any point?
I think the kit looks great, btw

ah i see, ach that's no problem at all (except that it's always daunting cutting your car up) but i have the means to do this myself, i'm gonna fit the kit myself, then take it off, get it painted then refit, hmmmmmmm, decisions decisions, as for the wheels, the sizes are supposed to be:
front - 9.5 wide x 25 ET
rear - 12 wide x 12 ET.
how do you even find wheels these sizes without spending 2-3k??? think i'll just have to use hubcentric spacers

wheels...
yahoo japan auctions (google chrome auto translate is your bestest friend here)
then get onto jesse streeter to bid/ship them for you
then get them refurbed locally if need be
or you couldget someone who specialises in importing/refurbing rare/special wheels to do it for you but it's much cheaper to cut out the middle man.
alternatively you could but a set of 3pc splits in the style you want and get some gangster wide lips made by image wheels to fatten them up.

I'm not too fussed about the wheels, besides, imagine the cost of tyres that were over a foot wide!

If you're fitting wide arches you'll be looking to push the wheels out so they're flush, I assume. In order for the wheels to sit proud of the stock arches you'll have to cut them back, to avoid epic rubbing issues etc.
There's a bunch of photos in my build thread of what mine looked like trimmed back. Not sure which page(s) though, there's too many now

Phil, I still have the pictures you sent me of the arch trim back - I can post them up on here but wanted to check with you first.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Ab Flug kit, Finished pic on page 18.
need help here guys, do i use the border front end, or the abflug?? border has always been my fave, but is it gonna require a lot more work to make it fit?? or a simple trim of the extended arches?? it will save me a couple of hundered quid on buying the abflug front end, however, i love the abflug front end too
EDIT: any pics would be extremely helpful
