air fuel ratio gauge

Post by ollie454 »

I am going to install a afr gauge into my rev3 na and would like to know if I can just splice into one of the wires on the o2 sensor if I can which one?

Thanks

Is this a wideband gauge? If so, it will need its own wideband sensor. A narrowband gauge is pointless.

Absolutely no point in going wideband on a stock NA 3SGE engine, wait until you convert to a turbo and do it as part of the wiring and exhaust changes then :eye:

Yeah- why not if you already have a wideband lambda sensor...go for it :thumleft:

If you don't then it's gonna cost you money...

I am not sure if it is a wideband gauge it is not digital and is a depo gauge

Never seen a gauge for a narrow band sensor, would seem a bit pointless :-k

Here you go Ash. Found you one to go with that Motec digi dash of yours.

It even has a scale that makes it look like a wideband!

And best of all? Although it's priced at a rather heady £10.49, the seller will accpet offers.

And even better - shipping is free direct from paddy field to your door!

dont bother
sounds like you have a narrowband gauge

utterly pointless on any car.

Granted, they may be pointless, however I fixed mine up a few weeks ago and just got the experience of running cables through the engine bay into the boot, and also wiring up the electronics.

It lasted about a week of annoying buzzing, and being completely pointless, however it was handy to know what was what.

So if you're like me and have little experience with that sort of thing, then go for it. It's good to do those sort of things.

I did get idle problems though. It happened a few times when it was all connected up and the idle speed kept dropping. I disconnected the wire from the ECU and all has been fine.

So the cheap gauge's lambda input doesn't have a high enough impedance and therefore mucks up the ECU's ability to read the sensor? Who'd have thought!

As it happens, for a while I had an A'PEXi turbo timer with lambda input hooked up to my rev3 turbo's lambda sensor. It didn't affect the car's running and, because it had a mode to calculate AFR rather than just displaying the lambda value, it actually helped to diagnose a failed wideband sensor :thumleft:

Still, cheap lambda gauges (anything without a 10-20 scale) are just junk and show nothing of any particular use.

For a turbo has anyone used these gauges?

I like the thin design.

I have the older, discontinued PLX M300 - works fine from what I can tell. I've now modified it so the display is within the speedo cluster.
