On the last run (first visit) it was making 150@wheels at 6k. We didn't do any more power runs this time, as it was focused on solving the fuelling issue. He reckons it's making around 170-175bhp at around 7k, which isn't a bad number at all. I did most of my shifting at around 6.5k while at Blyton, until a rev limiter is fitted and the shift lights on the dash have been adjusted.

It's certainly a different experience isn't it. With a few tweaks it should be much more planted and more importantly, faster


I took some time to investigate the suspected blowing exhaust mani yesterday. With the engine cover off I fired it up and could immediately tell it was blowing pretty badly. A quick hand hold over (not on! ) the various parts of the mani finds a gale blowing from the port closest to the bulkhead (1 or 4 ). Time to take the exhaust off..

While I wait to get hold of a new gasket I took a moment to clean up the headers, to remove all the old gunk etc.



That's all for now, it's not going anywhere until I can get a new gasket.

Another job done, that being replacing the exhaust gasket which had blown during the day at Bylton. I suspect the original failure was my fault, so when swapping it this time I've gone for a belt and braces approach.

With the exhaust already removed and cleaned up I cleaned the head, ensuring the surfaces were ready for the new gasket(s).



After speaking to Guy Croft about the failure he suggested using two gaskets, to allow for any imperfections in the manifold. Popped over to see him yesterday, in what turned out to be the worst drive ever (the detour was well worth it though... ), and collected the gaskets and a couple of spring washers to ensure tension in the nuts when tightened.



Popped a bead of Wurth high temp sealant around the ports on the mani, added the gasket and mated it up to the head and other gasket. With an assist from a little helper (Adrienne's nephew), who's a pretty good spanner monkey, the two were attached and tightened. Leaving it for 24 hours to set then it's test fire time.

Four wheels on this one. I was tempted by two, really tempted, however this should satisfy that urge for the foreseeable future.

I was very tempted, ultimately though I couldn't justify putting £30k+ into what will always be a second car. The one I saw and loved was £42k! But it was bloody awesome!

Quite possibly, it is ready to race from the off. Need to work out the logistics though so will confirm over the coming days
