Koni adjustable dampers

Post by alex_evo »

Hey all

I got some 2nd hand koni adj dampers on my aw11. I want to ask about the damping adjustment.

Is there a stopper on the adjustment as in if i spin the knob say left (to soften) will it stop when it hit max softness or will it keep spinning ? as i have no idea what setting im on atm

Thanks

There are something like 24 clicks of adjustment. I presume you have the original adjustment knob, I think it has an arrow on it saying clockwise is harder.

I set mine at fully soft then gradually harden until the desired result is achieved.

I seem to remember that going softer at the front helps reduce understeer. A bit of trial end error is always fun, as long as the errors arn't too serious.

Mine didn't click, they just turned 2.5 times, rears slightly less. I use to run about 1 whole turn from full soft. To hard and the rear would life on our lovely British roads and to soft the front would dip to much under hard braking.

It should be reasonably obvious when you turn the knob. Anticlockwise to full soft, clockwise to full hard. Think like a tap.

I'd go for a mid way setting to start with.

Thanks for the replies.

But im asking if the adjustment has a stopper as in if i turn (say anti-clockwise to soften it) will it stop clicking when i hit max softness and vice versa for hardness

As in my previous car (ae86) i had TRD's at the rears where if its on 0 you can turn clockwise to 1 or anticlockwise to 8 from 0. (which is max soft to max hard in one click !)

Since the koni's dont have numbers on them and left/right is pointing in different directions im not sure if both sides are equal

I haven't adjusted them yet as i want to make sure or i will ruin them lol

They have a stop when they get to full adjustment either way. They don't click.

Sorry I thought my Koni adjusters were indexed, maybe I was getting them confused with the Leda coilovers. Anyway there is definitely a stop at max and min.
