I was considering re-visiting my thought of a see through engine cover
Has anyone else done this to their mk1?

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Err why?
The 4-AGE is a good little engine but it's not exactly automotive jewellery. I fear you'd also run the risk of looking like a Fezza wannabe.
However, if you really want too then you might be the first.

Or you could do something like this

That really is awful, hopefully this'll put Alex off doing it!

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
That is however, your opinion.
I like it but I would make the entirity of mine see through.

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Could contact a company and have a engine lid made from polycarbonate. With vents etc.
Re: polycarbonate engine cover
How about a 3D printed lid

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Was going to get a sheet, draw and cut round my existing and router some vents in it.
Moving vents away from the alternator spot and move them back for the back end of the block on pot no.4

Different! I've got an engine that might be interesting I suppose. Not sure myself, but why not?

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
I'm with Lauren on this one, i think it looks awful, it will always need constant cleaning and will probably discolour from the heat..... i think it could only be considered if the car had a really special engine fitted, even then it's still a bit naff.
Just my opinion, each to their own!

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Thanks for that.
I don't like Borbet wheels but everyone raves about them.

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Who mentioned Borbet wheels?
Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Do not want. On a tubby it's like, "look at all these pipes i've got," and on a mk1 it would be a bit like, "look at this, it's like someone's put a Corolla together back to front."
Those cars that do have windows to show off the "engine" only ever seem to show you a chintzed up intake manifold covering with a badge on it.
I suppose Paul Woods'ses's mk1 V8 could ape an R8 by having "V8 FSI" or whatever visible but otherwise it doesn't seem right on a tranny 1.6.
On a mk1, would not the "TWIN CAM 16 VALVE TOYOTA 1600 etc" be upside down anyway as you look at it from the rear?

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
I think a perspex engine lid is the ultimate chav mod, i rate it alongside neon washer jets and lambo door hinges, it just looks awful, especially if all you're showing off is a stock 4a-ge with nothing more than some painted cam covers...sorry just my personal opinion, i'm allowed that right?
Here's a random pic of a Borbet wheel looking really bad on a mK1

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Wouldn't personally want a window on top of my engine bay
Am thinking of making an aluminium engine bay lid though
Not keen on Borbets, other than that they give the car a wider stance

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Quite why Borbets were brought into the discussion i have no idea, completely irrelevant to the topic, although they are very popular among Mk1 owners.

Re: polycarbonate engine cover
Oh i think i see why, you don't like me having my own opinion about your clear engine lid idea so you decided to dislike something i've done on my own car..... how very mature and totally irrelevant.
I'd suggest not starting a thread about an idea if you don't want everyones opinion.
