1994 rev3 TRD Widebody turbo build

Hey Matt, I just read through this as I didn't realise you were also doing a TRD Widebody build until I saw your sig on my thread.

Awesome work buddy, just loving the headlamp surrounds and I'm also keeping the rev 5 spoiler as basically, I can't get hold of a TRD one but just the same I think it works.

Keep the pics coming and my jaw dropped when I saw the orange TRD, that's sheer indulgence ....... and has has to be done!!!

Yes I'm buying George's TRD spoiler

I've still to finish the headlight surrounds but most of the work done they just need a skim of filler then paint .

I'm still unsure on colour but it does look nice in that orange

Good Shout Jonnie, similar to the Ford RS howwever, I'm not sure how good it would look after a few years of use.

I just spotted the radiator Matt. I installed exactly the same when I did my V6 conversion and I can't fault it. I think the entire rad and fan shroud was lighter than the original fan that I removed and it's peace of mind for the future.

Allegedly the ally race rad reduces oil temps by up to 3%.

Update .

GeorgeL delivered my TRD rep spoiler while I was away (thanks George )
So I thought I'd start by testing the fitment on it before I fixed the couple of hairline cracks and it fits brilliantly .





I'm very pleased with fitment so ill repair the cracks and that's one less item on the list

When I removed the old rad the bottom rubbers were shot so I bought a pair from Shmed from the tubby he was breaking I also bought the rear engine mount.

The rad hoses had also seen better days so I ordered some red silicone ones with some mikalor clamps. Everything arrived while I was away so I could fit the rad I also painted the top rad brackets while they were off.

The other thing that came in the post was a toyota BGB which also covers the 3sgte


I got another coat of paint on my gearbox too

Great updates mate, really taking shape! Spoiler looks great. I was going to get one, but not sure it would work on a non TRD car, bit out of proportion for my liking.

I can't wait to see this finished!

Thanks Craig it's getting there now I only need a clutch then the engine can go in and the other rear quarter can go on when I finish the arch cut and weld a lip on

I really have to say I'm sold on the spoiler.

I saw Andy's TRD1 yesterday and it looks just right, seeing it on yours just convinces me further.

Looking great Matt excellent progress and pretty much over the hard part. Shouldn't be too long now buddy.

Update

I've had a good weekend and have got a nice bit of progress

I collected the AC rad brackets I needed to mount my radtech rad from Sbits thanks again Craig

I gave them a lick of paint while they were off

I fitted the rad brackets and cc rad ( I'm still missing the bottom L brackets but I can fit them later)


I also relocated the horns to one each side as the cc rad now fills the gap

My turbo rear hubs arrived in the week so I stripped them down ready for a couple of coats of paint

^ after I removed the rusty dust sheild as my bigger rear discs will catch

A pic after a hour removing the rust and dirt from them with a wire brush

After the first coat of paint


When I removed the pass side vent I noticed the side vent rubber metal retaining trim had rusted it so I replaced it



After that I cut the pass rear arch and welded on a metal strip to fill the gap like I did with the drivers side then I fitted the pass side skirt and the rear quarter

This is fantastic. I've always wanted a TRD and even got my hands on a kit once, but it's so much work, especially if you're not experienced with bodywork.

Little update for the last couple of nights I've been disconnecting all the hoses and wiring from the engine so I can drop the engine out .

It's ready to be dropped now so that's tomorrow's job .

Then It's time to start the tubby conversion

I had a free morning so today's the day I drop the old engine

I finally had chance to use my car tilter and I'm glad I bought it , it's a brill piece of kit



So out with the old to make way for the new




Engine placed on two wheel dolls before I lifted the body then strapped before I moved it


After it had removed the engine and while the rear was in the air I removed the rear grill


I then painted the part hidden by the bumper with stone chip/body coat to help protect from rust

It needs another coat I ran out typical

My front crash bar came back from painters so that can go back on now


Also I collected my lifeline fire extinguisher from sbits I will run the lines when I've dropped the fuel tank to fit the Walbro and while the engines out for ease of access
