Well, it all sounds good, but I wouldn't call 225bhp 'tuned down'. 200bhp is pushing it really.

This is a really good car for the money (same car as in last post) and the Irish rally lads swear by ae86's as tarmac rally cars.

This one could never be a road car

Jesus that is seriously good value. Elite axle and gearbox, I wouldn't like to think how much they cost new.

Surely it could be made road legal. Some how :-k

As already touched on, it would make an awesome Tarmac rally car. If only it was 1600cc not 1700.

Another quick update on the head rebuild.

My daughter was born 3 weeks ago so progress has been slow! Managed to strip down the old head and, while cleaning everything up, found a hairline crack in one of the exhaust valves. I've only managed to find a single supplier online, a non branded part on eBay which I'm not massively sure about.

Anyone have a rough idea how much a valve would be from Toyota? I can phone 'em tomorrow but a rough idea would be good, or maybe suggestions of an alternative?

I've started lapping in the remaining valves but with feeding and entertaining a new born it's gonna take a while! I'm probably not gonna be able to get it mapped until Easter anyway, which will hopefully coincide with a change in the weather...

Stuff like this you need to get from Toyota.

How much can a valve be?

Surely it can't be more than £50?

Mark reckons (he's bought a lot of Toyota parts), £15. Though it's a total guess I'm afraid. It's unusual to need to buy valves.

Cheers Lauren, thought it was worth trying to get a rough idea before I try and phone Toyota tomorrow.

I was hoping the same retailers that do head gaskets etc would have them but I've had no luck. All the others look fine so no idea what might have caused it. Is looking for 2nd hand from a breaker gonna be as bad as eBay specials? Just looking at contingencies if Mr T are extortionate, or more likely don't have the stock.

You could easily pinch a used valve from another head. As long as it's not overly pitted and straight, there's no reason why it shouldn't be fine.

I do remember having to buy an exhaust valve once. I don't recall it being horrifically expensive and it was an over size valve that I could only get from the semi-works team (DTV).

I did have a spare head but I think it was weighed in for scrap. Shame as you could have had it for nought.

Toyodiy lists the exhaust valve PN 13715-16010 at 56 Euros each but I'd call Toyota to check that.

Thanks for the replies.

Checked with Toyota and exhaust valves are £45 each!

Seeing as I'm using the old valves I suppose I might as well go second hand? I've kept the valves/springs/collets etc as sets, will introducing a different valve with different wear cause any issues or, so long as I check it's still in spec, will it be OK? Am I best taking the hit on a new valve?

Anyone got a spare valve in exchange for postage costs and a couple of beer tokens? If not I suppose I'd best get phoning around some specialist breakers.
