[Mk2] [Turbo] Radiator Fans not working (Rev 2 Turbo)

Post by nytrus90 »

Hey guys, My Radiator fan (cooling fan No.1) is not getting any supply (12V) when the water temp senor is disconnected and I cant seem to figure out why. I am getting supply to the air con fan though (cooling fan NO. 2)

Here is the situation:
All fuses (front fuse box and 7.5A gauge) are all ok.

Replaced all relays with known working ones.

I am getting 12v at the relay on cooling fan No.1 when the water temp sensor is disconnected.

there is continuity between the rad fan connector and rad fan relay.

replaced A/C amp with a known working one and still nothing

Anything else I have missed??

Below is a wiring diagram

update, still having an issue with my Radiator fans not working on my rev 2 turbo, Ive managed to get them to work.

basically I disconnected the A/C pressure switch and the fans worked, at full speed. Now question is why is it working only working when the switch is unplugged?

tests carried out:

Water temp sensor unplugged, A/C pressure switch open (disconnected) - Fans spin at full RPM

Water temp sensor unplugged, A/C pressure switch closed (Wires twisted together) - No Fans - Fan#1 Does not receive 12v on the power terminal but Fan #2 does.

Water temp sensor plugged in, A/C pressure switch open (disconnected) - Fans spin at full RPM

Where should I go from here?

Right not too sure what this test proves but the only thing that is different from my Working rev 2 to my turbo is:

turbo:

Pin 4 of relay #3 is live when water temp sensor is disconnected and AC pressure switch bridged (fans dont work) when the AC Pressure switch is disconnected Pin #1 of relay 3 is live, #4 is not (fans work)

Non Turbo:

(water temp senor is disconnected, AC pressure switch connected) pin #1 of relay 3 is live, pin #4 on 3 is not - fans work.

what could be causes the circuit to behave like this?
