[Mk2] [NA] my n/a stuttering in wet weather

Post by lufcraigyg »

I'm having running issues with my mr2 in all the rain we've been having.

I have no problems at all in dry conditions, but tonight i took it out of hiding after two weeks off the road & it was stuttering under low revs, at junctions, or red lights. At one point it cut out all together before i got it going again.

I recently bought a turbo lid because i read the n/a lids channel water onto the alternator thinking that was that but no.

could the issue be spark plugs? dizzy cap?

The car had a recent new alternator & starter motor before i had it.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Exactly the same problems I've had. It sounds ignition related, so leads/dizzy cap. If you don't mind being electrocuted, you can feel the connections for play/breakages and when you get shocked you've found the culprit  but if you've not done so recently, I'd replace ignition parts :thumleft:

I Had trouble with this recently. Check your ignition coil just below the igniter. Mine had swolen up and was breaking down during wet weather.

I had similar issues and found it was water getting into the the spark plug chambers. Aftermarket leads weren't sealing properly so a set of genuine toyota ones were purchased and sorted the issue :thumleft:
