GEARBOX REBUILD

Post by superbrian0 »

Hi everybody

Forgive some silly questions from a newbie ...and expect a lot more in the near future .
I bought A 1993 MK2 TBAR needing a single tyre for its MOT . While looking for a tyre i came across TWO brand new proxies size 205 /50/15 for only £108 ....delivered free so I bought them for future use .

With regard to the new clutch , this is what i intend to do .
1 find a really good gearbox reconditioner , preferably An MR2 / owner enthusiast IMOC member in the North of England...PRESTON area if possible . I am reluctantly willing to travel to find the best availabke.
IF ANY OF YOU CAN STRONLY RECOMMEND A GEARBOX GUY PLEASE LET ME KNOW

2 Since i am commited to having a new clutch fitted why not have the whole gearbox reconditioned at the same time ? Roughly how much ? , mine doesnt make any noises and it doesnt jump out of any gear BUT when alls said and done its done at least 130000 miles

3 Since i am having a new clutch and a reconditioned gearbox ....i might as well have a new 44 cog 5th gear fitted (apparently lowers engine revs by 470 RPM and can be fitted the same time as the gearbox is refurbished

4 might as well fit a rear beefed up x brace IF this is gives a worthwhile benefit in the real world .

5 might as well fit polybushes all round and new engine / gearbox mounts . Are there better engine mounts than the stock Toyota ones ?
THATS IT !!

All information/tips gratefully received

Kind Regards Brian
