Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Hi
I have a 92 rev 2 turbo with a rebuilt geabrox fitted everything at the rear is stripped out at the moment all running gear out for all new bushes coilovers caliper rebuilds etc its just the bare block head and box in the engine bay as I am cleaning everything and replacing all the gaskets hoses HFH SMIC etc etc. I have been offered an LSD BOX for silly money £50 but I only know that it was allegedly fine when fitted is there any way apart from installing the driveshafts and seeing the rotation of telling whether my existng box is standard or LSD
Thanks
Presuming everything is stock (i.e. stock Toyota LSD etc) then look in the holes the driveshafts go in. If you can see all the way through then it's non LSD. If there is a bar in the middle then it's LSD.

There is a spacer in the middle with a 10-12mm hole in that you can see through so its not the same diameter as the shafts all the way through is this what you mean by saying "a bar in the middle"

So if it's a standard non LSD box does this mean that the hole diameter is the same as the shaft diameter all the way through, I will post a pic up if needed

E153 Open Diff.
E153 OEM LSD
E153 TRD LSD
E153 Kazz LSD
Turning the wheels of an OEM LSD or open diff will NOT tell you what type of diff you have. Only a plate-type LSD can be identified by turning the wheels - they will both turn the same direction.
