mk1a rear tie rods/track rods

Post by russgregg »

Hi all, if anybody happens to find themselves under their mk1a with a tape measure could you have a look at the positioning of the chassis side mount for the rear track rods.

The buggy that I've built uses all mk1a components but I never made a note of the mounting point for these arms. I've just stuck them in temporarily but it's obviously not correct as there's vast amount of toe change on bump.

If somebody could give me positions relative to the control arm mounts or similar that would be muchly appreciates. I'm saying mk1a only as I understand that the b has a different hub design.

Even if you have any relevant photographs of the rear subframe/suspension - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Russ

Thanks Jimi, unfortunately doesn't include any of the lower suspension pickup points. Useful pic to have though - i'll add it to the collection.

Would it help if I measure the length of the track rod?

I swapped my mk1a suspension for mk1b so I have the mounts and rods in the garage.

The wheels were aligned about 1 year before I swapped it.

Yes please, the length would be a good start. I modified my units to take rose joints on the chassis side so I don't know what the original length was.

Sorry it's taking a while.

I work 12 hours on monday, tuesday and wednesday. I'll measure them tomorrow evening.

Not to worry, we had our 2nd baby arrive unexpectedly yesterday so i'll not be doing much at it for a week or so.

Thanks

They are approx 38.8cm long. Measured between the center of the hole in the inner tie rod and the center of the outer ball joint.

Hope that helps.
