Rear Lower Arm Bolt

Morning guys,

I have been helping a friend with his N/A MR2 Rev 3.

He has a gearbox fluid leak, which we narrowed down to the driveshaft seal. We replaced this last night. We left the outer end of the shaft in the hub and removed the 19mm bolt that holds the rear lower arm on the chassis.

When re-assembling we had a mare getting the bolt back in. Tried all sorts but ended up fighting with it in the dark and giving up.

Just before we left I tried the bolt in the hole without the arm, and could not get it to start. You can't actually see the back of the hole it winds into as it is enclosed, but i managed to get my little finger through a hole underneath, and could feel whatever it is wobbling slightly.

I think the threads are nackered on the start of the bolt, so want to try a new bolt in there.

From what I've found I think the bolt is part number 48703E. Toyota can't get one for a couple of days. Does anybody know of an alternative that will fit?

I have a picture of the bolt and an exploded diagram of the arm, but obviously can not post the links yet. Any help greatly appreciated.

Does the first thread of the bolt look damaged?

Wonder if it's the start thread of the captive nut that's damaged

Will the bolt screw into the other end of the captive nut ?

If so, if you push it all the way through then it should clean up the threads

A thread file is a wonderful tool for tidying up bolt threads

should've undone the balljoint.

First remove the arm again and check the bolt in the hole.

The wishbone is under tension in it's position, so you need to undo the 17's on the balljoint, and the rear track arm, move the strut/hub so you can get
the wishbone in a horizontal position (balljoint high as possible). Then, and only then will the arm be lined up with the captive nut. the bolt will fall in.
