[Mk2] [NA] HSD COILOVERS fitted, Front springs jumping every turn of the wheel???

Post by dexter »

Hi, installed HSD coil-overs a few weeks back and have noticed the car makes an awful "tong, katong" sound when the car turns (excuse the sound attempt). Also seen that the springs jump back down when turning. Need some advice as everyone I've asked have been stumped and want the car to be safe.

Sounds like an issue with pre-load. Make sure you've set your coilovers up right;

Hi I have this issue with my HSD's I contacted driftworks and after much back and forth, they told me they would accept to take them back. I didnt really want to return them, as it would mean fitting another suspension set, and paying mega postage as they are heavy, didnt seem worth it to me.
The design of the topmount I beleive is wrong, it would work on a double wishbone, where the shock wouldnt have to turn, but on our mcpherson strut it just seems wrong, maybe if we both moan at the same time, driftworks would be more willing to accept the problem is with he design. The older sets had a pillowball top mount, it is when the changed the design this problem has occured. For me, the best outcome would be for new "old style" pilowball top mounts to be sent out before returning the old stuff, I dont want my car off the road waiting for parts due to someone else's fault.

If you search HSD on this site, and see the topic I started, it shows what the problem is, sorry I cant post a link yet.
