Fuel gauge/sender

Post by David-Edmond »

Finally recieved the log book for my mr2 last night so taxed it first thing this morning and its now on the road.
Put £20 fuel in it and noticed the fuel gauge still isnt working.
Have put signals up to the gauge and it works then, so not sure what the problem is. It had been sat for 2 years previously so could the sender need cleaning possibly?

Is it normal that the fuel guage takes a while to go up to full after filling the car? Its the only car i've had that doesnt do it straight away.

Mine does this, the needle slowly rises to the top, I just assumed it was normal.

Mine only goes to 3/4 when full and when it hits the bottom line it runs out the red light doesnt illuminate. Going to fit the sender out of my rev3.

What fuel are you using to cost so much. £20 Vpower is something like 13-14 litres for me :)

Low fuel switch has died. So you need a new sender unit.

Turn out to be the low switch on the sender was just seized, a gentle tap sorted it. Worked fine now for over a year

How do you recalibrate the gauge to your fuel capacity?

i had this on mine too, needle won't move, but the low fuel light works, so i pulled the sender out, apparently the sender was stuck. placed it back in correctly, all working fine.
next day i throw the car sideways at a roundabout, again stuck.

been doing this about 3 times, but can't be bothered anymore, it happenes all the time...
