Track pads - OEM/EBC/BD/Ferodo/Mintex/Carbotech etc

Post by vanman1936 »

Hi

Been looking into...thoughts appreciate.

OEM - seem to be well regarded but not much comment re track work?
EBC - really mixed reviews plus my Indi specialist doesnt rate them
Black diamond - cant seem to find fast track (not road) pads that fit
Ferodo - cant seem to find 2500/3000 to fit
Mintex - 1144 too soft; 1155 / 66 better - not that cheap
Carbotech - we all know, the dogs danglies but £360 a set!!!!
Other??

Any ideas? Real world experience?

Cheers

Not personally tried them but Porterfield and Hawk pads are popular on the Supra forum.

where do you get the PFs from? Cost?

Here they wear a little quicker than Carbotech's...what has been your experience?

I had my set on my road car for 3 years or more and the car was used every day, so they do last longer than the stock ones

Ebc yellow stuff. No pad fade and good price. Every one will disagree but have used them on track with no problems.

The only problems I have ever had with brakes have been with pads and disks made by EBC.

I had some project mu's all round, found them excellent on track. Replaced the rears with EBC Yellowstuff recently and they seem to wear a bit less than the mu's on track...still no fade.

Turbo or N/A?

For track days on a Turbo id go with Carbotech XP8. They are expensive but you won't get that horrible moment when your brakes fade. Just make sure you have good fluid! That'll be your weak point running Carbotechs.

On an n/a you'll get away with something cheaper. I found yellow stuffs where fine around Mallory park on my n/a. Wouldnt use them on the turbo though.

Standard discs, Carbotech XP10's, braided hoses and Motul RBF600 brake fluid.

That's what I'm running at the moment on the track car. Amazing! 8)
