im abit stuck with my suspension at the minute and didnt know if anyone has come across this problem?

basically my top cup has rusted into 2 parts ](*,) and i have a replacement to fit as its just the cup (thanks to a top quality member on here :thumleft:) front drivers side btw

but i cant find a way to undo the main nut on the damper :-k

heres a shockig picture to see if it makes more sense?? :lol: :lol:

tried gripping the damper with grips and spring comppesors holding down the spring to no luck though [-(

so any ideas........ :wink: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Temporarily bolt it back into the car and loosen the nut with it in situ (but don't fully remove the nut with it on the car!) :thumleft:

Or clamp the damper if you want an asbo.

cheers for the replies 8)

i cant bolt it to the car to unbolt because the top 'half' of the cup is sererated from the bottom as its rotten through so the key'd part on the damper spins, if that makes sense

sorry bud, how'd ya mean clamp the damper???

I have done this before by clamping a large screwdriver to one of the top cup large tangs with a pair of mole grips. I then lay the strut down and stand on the screwdriver and undo the nut with a breaker bar. Needs must!

take it to your local tyre shop and ask them to undo it with they impact air gun

Great solution if you can get there or know someone with an impact gun. Probably a lot safer than my method too:thumleft:
