Seat play - how to fix?

Post by George »

Hi everyone,

I've been looking through topics, but can't find the answer, so I hope you can help.
A large amount of play has developed on my drivers seat, allowing the backrest to move back and forth about haf an inch as i brake/accelerate. This is very annoying and takes away my driving pleasure :(.

From what I saw today, the play seems to originate between the locking mechanism and the upright part.

Anyone else has this? Anyone found a sollution or some deatiled picture on how the adjusting machanism is made?

Regards,

Joris

What sort of seats have you got?

OEM cloth - buy another set, they are very cheap.
OEM suede or leathers - consider buying another set. It might be worth taking them apart and investigating for loose bolts etc.

Aftermarket - let us know brand / model / photograph them.

Oh yeah, I forgot.
I have black leather oem seats. But they've been retrimmed recently and still look very nice, so I don't want to get rid of them yet.

I seem to recall that the back half bolts to the adjuster brackets, and they may have split them off in order to re-trim them, then not tightened the bolts properly. Access is difficult so I would remove the seat entirely to look into it - it's not a 'known' fault.

Do you have a picture or something to clarify your explanation? I don't really understand what you mean.

The adjuster has two parts, one connected to the bottom of the seat, and one connected to the backrest. What I saw was play between the backrest and the backrest-connected adjuster part.
I couldn't figure out exactly how the backrest part and the backrest are connected. The seemed to be press-fitted (?).[/img]
